Mewing in 5 Simple Steps
.
.
POV: You have searched deep into the heart of Google and still don't know what this "mewing" thing is all about.  Well, let's break it down for you into a few easy steps!  Keep in mind- mewing has been around for a long time, but has recently been made popular by Dr. Michael Mew in London.  Research is still being released every day, but there are enough success stories to make it worth a shot!  Long story short, mewing restructures the structure of the face by utilizing strategic tongue placement over time.  This should help bring the jawline forward and also aid in the positioning of crowded teeth to bring the jaw into it's "correct" position.  Give it a shot and let us know your thoughts!
.
Step 1 - Simply Perk Your Lips Together in a Rested Position
.
Let's take this slow and make sure the fundamentals are correct.  This step is simply pressing your lips together in a rested position.  DO NOT make a "duck face" or protrude your lips outward as if you are about to whistle.  Keep your lips in a normal closed position with SLIGHT pressure keeping them closed.  It is as simple as it sounds!
.
Now let's touch on the position of your teeth.  They should be SLIGHTLY separated.  It is ok if your back teeth touch slightly, but make sure your front teeth are not touching.  The gap in the opening of your teeth should be able to fit no more than a slice of American Cheese (it was the first comparison we could think of, don't judge us!)
.
Step 2 - Place Your ENTIRE Tongue Against the Roof of Your Mouth
.
This sounds simple, but it is surely the most important step in the process so let's take it slow.  It's easy to make the tip of your tongue touch the roof of your mouth, but we even want the FAR BACK of your tongue (closest to the back of your throat) touching the roof of your mouth as well.  Think of it like painting a wall.  The roof of your mouth is the wall and your tongue is the paint.  You want the whole "wall" covered entirely to the best of your ability.  This takes some practice, so don't get frustrated at first!  Most beginners will not have the ability to do so at all, and it should get easier with time as you are training your jawline.  Do the best you can and try to improve with each exercise!  Do this and hold it for as long and often as possible.  At first you will need to do it consciously and it requires discipline.  Once you get into a routine, you will be mewing whenever you have free time by building this habit.
.
Pro Tips
1)Start off by mewing when you wakeup and go to bed in the beginning to get into a good rhythm.  After a week or two, try to incorporate this technique whenever possible throughout your day!  It may make sense to set your alarm 2-3 times daily as a reminder.
2)When exercising properly, the skin between your adam's apple and chin should feel tight while mewing.
.
Very Important
Your tongue should not be touching your front teeth at all!  If you are pressing your tongue against your front teeth, this could shift them over time and actually cause more harm than good.  It is a very simple tip, but should not be overlooked!
.
Step 3 - Shoulders Back!
.
This may seem unnecessary, but it is paramount to mewing properly!  In the beginning, try standing up against a wall with your shoulders and heels back, touching the wall.  Posture is very important, and it is the main reason most people's jawlines are slumped in the first place!  We don't just want a sharp jawline, we also want an aesthetically attractive jawline with great posture in the face and neck.
.
Step 4 - Swallow Properly
.
This step is supplemental.  Whenever swallowing, try to make a conscious effort to mew first, gather the saliva with the tip of your tongue and then swallow using just your throat.  Do NOT utilize any other muscles in the face at all except your throat and tongue.  Your lips, jaw and teeth should not move (when swallowing a liquid).  Just like the other steps, practice makes perfect!  We are building better habits and this part is very important as well.  Swallowing the wrong way will, over time, go against all the training you have been doing to mold your jaw's placement.
.
Step 5 - Chew Properly!
.
This is similar to step 4 in building good habits.  Chewing with your mouth open is cheating your jawline from natural exercise it could be getting.  Follow your mother's advice, and chew with your mouth closed, and slowly!  We want to exercise the masseter muscle as much as possible on a daily basis, 24/7.  Why not maximize the exercise you can give your jawline?  It may not seem like much, but over the course of a year this could make a huge difference if religiously followed.
.
Bringing It All Together
.
While mewing is still a controversial technique with many positive and negative reviews, it is worth giving a shot in our opinion!  Why not have good posture to go along with that chiseled jawline?
1) Perk Your Lips in a Slightly Rested Position
2) Place Your ENTIRE Tongue Against the Roof of Your Mouth
3) Shoulders Back
4) Swallow Properly With Your Tongue Rested on the Roof of Your Mouth
5) Chew Properly (with your mouth closed, didn't momma teach you any manners?)
.
Dedicated to having hollow cheeks and a jawline sculpted like the Greek Gods?  We recommend building muscle in the jawline using jawline gum, reducing body fat, and mewing on a daily basis!  Give it a shot and let us know how your transformation goes!
