Do Jawline Exercises Work? 3 Techniques You Can Try At Home
Everyone knows that you cannot change your bone structure without surgery. But can you actually strengthen your jawline with different types of exercises? Let's find out.
.
Short Answer: Yes
.
There are many muscles at play when chewing things like food or jawline gum in the face and neck, but the three most visible and important muscles are the
-Masseter
-Temporalis
-Pterygoid
The key word at play here is MUSCLE. Just like any other muscle in your body, jaw muscles can be exercised and grown to make them more profound and visible. Also like any other muscle, these can be overworked. We recommend not overdoing any of the following exercises, and taking days off with some rest in between. Just as you wouldn't go to the gym and bench press 7 days in a row, jawline exercises should be treated in the same manner.
.
Chinups / Neck Stretch
.
There have been claims that doing chinups and neck stretches regularly could help give you a chiseled jawline. Basically, close your mouth and push your lower jaw out while lifting your lower lip. It should feel like you have an underbite worse than a shih-tzu puppy. These may or may not have a positive effect on your jawline, but at a minimum they will give you a nice stretch and it's never a bad idea to keep muscles limber. The only negative here is that there is no RESISTANCE. Nothing that is going to push your muscles to a new limit where the growth can occur.
.
Jawline Gum
.
This may be your first encounter with jawline gum. Let's break it down for you! When compared to normal chewing gum, jawline gum is roughly 10x more resistant and thick. Think about it this way. You can go on a 1 mile jog every morning and see great results (normal gum). Then there are the people who will go on a 1 mile jog every morning while wearing a 100 pound vest (jawline gum). Resistance matters. Your jawline muscles will get exercise daily from chewing various foods. This will keep your muscles active and strong. If you would like to see results you have never seen, you must push your jaw muscles to do things they have never done. Jawline gum will put your jaw through an intense workout. Do not be surprised if you have a difficult time chewing food for a day or so after your first workout. The muscles will be worked to exhaustion, and that is the catalyst needed to spark growth!
.
The only challenges with jawline gum are the following
1) It's very valuable and expensive (try discount code sculpt20 for your first purchase with our jawline gum here at Project Jawline.
2) It is sometimes difficult to find high quality mastic, the substance from which the gum is typically derived. Low quality mastic can have weaker resistance and can become sticky when melted.
.
Mewing
.
Mewing is a very controversial technique made popular by British orthodontist Dr. Michael Mew. It is a face restructuring technique, involving tongue placement in the mouth.
.
The purpose of mewing was originally to help with jaw related injuries and to correct speech impediments. More recently, it has been attributed to helping build a strong jawline and restructuring the position of the jaw.
.
What is it?
.
Make your tongue flat, and place it on the roof of your mouth. Make sure your whole tongue is touching the roof of your mouth, even in the back (as far back as you can go). Over time, it is said this can straighten teeth and reposition the jaw to it's proper location. What's the negative? It can take years to see results. Your tongue is used to sitting flat on the bottom of your mouth. It takes time to build up resistance and muscle memory to teach it otherwise.
.
While mewing can assist in helping the jawline stand out and potentially help grow it, there is still a lack of resistance. We would advise utilizing something to exhaust the jaw muscles, and supplement it with this mewing technique to hit it from every angle.
